Republic street celebrates its 150 years!

Republic street celebrates the hundred - fiftieth anniversary this week! Jalis, strongly involved in the local economic fabric from Marseille and partner of La République des commerçants (Republic of merchants), is happy to join this event and participate with the visibility brought to the association, the revival of a district which extends from Vieux-Port to Joliette.

Some history

Republic street was established in 1864 under the Second-empire of Napoleon III. The project of the urban planners was then ambitious: to open the city northward while offering the bourgeoisie a privileged living environment, with the construction of luxury buildings. One and a half century later, the bet seems to be good and truly gained: its facades of Haussmann style, restored carefully, compete in elegance with those of most Parisian boulevards, and the arrival of tramway allowed the customers to make a street re-appropriation, encouraging the trade setting-up of any business sectors, for all the tastes and all the stock exchanges.

One week of festivities

To celebrate 150 years of Republic Street’s inauguration, the association of merchants organizes one week of demonstrations and festivities to all those who are invited. These playful, spectacular and cultural events reflect the street’s spirit and what makes it live.

Conferences and workshops will also be held throughout the week from 15 to 21 September, a small train will offer you a new look on Republic street, and on Saturday there will be organized a big popular parade which will group merchants, local residents and inhabitants of Marseille.

A district in the future

Republic street joins completely in the new heart of Marseille city. Circulation axis was endowed with common means of transportation, places of pleasant life just a step from the historic districts, museums and restaurants, the new destination for shopping amateurs, it possesses all the assets to play an important part in the future.

Jalis accompanies La République des commerçants (Republic of merchants) in the  conquest of new markets with the creation of a dedicated site, Republique.biz, which offers all the members of the association a maximal visibility on the Internet and search engines.
