Google Art Project: a pool of home culture

Today, after taking back your favorite search engine, you have certainly noticed these small labels under the search bar and an invitation to discover Google Art Project. Jails blog tells you more about this titanic project which displays the culture just a few clicks.

 

Virtual visit of big museums

 

Walk in the galleries of Versailles Palace, go along the floors of the MoMA in New York, discover the treasures of Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam, plunge into Tate Britain in London… and everything without spending time on planes! Basically this allows you to make Google Art Project.


This large-scale project was launched less than one year, in February, 2011. But it made a significant leap in the beginning of April, 2012 thanks to the implementation of new partnerships with museums in the whole world. Today, it includes about 151 museums located in forty countries and especially a collection of 300,000 works!

 

A real on-line art gallery

 

You certainly noticed it but Google rarely does things by half. Thanks to the Street View technology, Google Art Project offers you a real stroll in the partner museums. You can roam freely, click to zoom a work which interests you, completely master your virtual visit. And with your Google identifiers, you can even create the gallery of your dreams by collecting your favorite stuffs.
