French search engine

02/19/2013

Maybe you heard about it this week, Qwant is a search engine made in France which was launched last week. But just one week ago, the remarks existed.

To look at it like that, we would believe almost a parody of Google. Colored graphics standards, Knowledge Graph, the search bar in the middle of the page as well as the possibility of connecting. Just like the Google giant!

Nevertheless as soon as they type a search, the layout is completely upset. The searches are decomposed into 6 zones: a horizontal zone at the top which corresponds to the results embellishes with images and video and 5 vertical zones with the classic, live results, Knowledge Graph, Social and Shopping. A layout which allows to have an eye on all the set at once. Furthermore, it is possible to change the upper results’ display to the left.

What they note of interesting things which are the most popular searches for moment below the search bar in homepage. Useful idea to be informed about the buzzes of moment.

A real French search engine?

It would seem to be, and they suspected it strongly, that Qwant is not a real search engine but a Web interface. What is it? Simply that it would use Bing’s results for the current events as the Web results. Concerning famous Knowledge Graph, it is only shaping the pages of Wikipedia, in Google’s style. For the social networks, of course, they are the flows of social networks. And finally for Shopping results, we take everything of Amazon.

We are thus far from the French-style search engine. A well tried buzz but limited if we go there, it will be for its original and nice interface of search results.

And do you go to surf on Qwant?
