European capitals of culture
Each year two European cities are appointed to be the major European capital of culture. In 2013, Marseille-Provence (France) and Kosice (Slovakia) were appointed by the European jury to hold this title. All year round, the selected cities deploy a program of exceptional cultural events. The European capital of culture should:
- build Europe’s culture;
- be a part of a strategy of territory’s sustainable development;
- increase the highest number of inhabitants participating in manifestations and creative processes;
- create new and long-term cultural activities.

Marseille-Provence has involved a number of urban areas in the project of European capital of culture. The concerned territory covers almost all the department of Bouches-du-Rhône and Toulon urban area. (see the territory map on the website: http: // www.marseille-provence2013.fr)
Name
The association established for the European Major management of culture project calls is known as Marseille-Provence 2013.
Application logo
The association has disposed the first logo and a visual identity (see website www.marseille-provence2013.fr) for the application phase. This graphic identity was implemented by the agency Atalante. It allowed to assert aesthetically a multiple size project. According to the objectives of the application phase, Marseille-Provence 2013 has raised the support of actors and inhabitants in the territory, the mobilization shown by a big exhibition of logos; all the partners of Marseille-Provence 2013 appropriated this logo and widely used and displayed to assert its support for the application.
Now officially designated by Europe, the association would like to be equipped with an official logo and a different charter from the previous one the use of which will be checked.
