The Web developer’s job not only consists of handling code lines in the only light of screen. It is the job which requires the imagination to find where to put the puzzle’s place. It is in any case of what Mike, one of the oldest developers of Jalis, thinks of. He tells us about his missions with a lot of wisdom and enthusiasm.
How long have you worked at Jalis and what is your function in the Web company?
It is going to take me 6 years to work at Jalis. I have worked as technician in the customer support to handle the demands and the customer returns quickly.
Then, with my acquired experience in this pots about one and a half years, I have taken charge of the function of Web developer.
Before joining Jalis, what was your job, what training did you pursue?
After obtaining a high school diploma in sciences, I directly tried to turn in the computing. I knew what I wanted to do, soaking in the universe since I was very young. Thus I have entered IUT for an IT DUT, then I logically continued pursuing a license specialized in the multimedia to stick with my desires and motivations, which turned naturally to the programming and development.
My program is thus simple, clear without smudges!
Can you describe your current post in a few words?
Thus I am currently in charge of the Web developer’s post, in which several missions are confided to me. I play the role of realization and development of the customers’ web sites including specific demands and custom-made projects.
But I also take several missions at the same time such as the elaboration of new tools created for the company and more particularly, for the production, the maintenance of programs used in house as well as the diverse tasks of Research and Development. It is always competitive and offers the best referencing to customers.
What do you prefer in your work?
What I prefer in my work, is the reflection and imagination. We often say that the imagination, is for artists, but even in programming and development, you should not neglect it.
Beyond the logic and algorithms, it is essential to reflect carefully the way of doing, imagine and visualize the best way to achieve it. There may have many solutions but it is essential to know what we want to make, in which ways and for which result(s). We are not going in blind!
Be creative and innovative among all the diverse and various situations, it is what I have an interesting and enriching work everyday.
Which Jalis site are you most satisfied?
There are many realized sites which I am satisfied with. In reality, I am enchanted with each success which I participate in. However, there are always notable people.
My best outcomes are the participation in the elaboration and the company’s site development, such as jalis.fr and its satellites as the site of Jalis Académie. I am flattered to take charge of such missions which influence directly the image and reputation of the company for which I’ve invested and it is a mutual recognition.
Which site gave you the hardest time and why?
There are many manners to give a hard time to a developer, with the rigorous requirements as the solution elaboration to new needs or problems. I would like to highlight the Cabinet Marie, the customer for whom we had many adjustments and small regulations in the launch. These have taken a certain time after production and allowed to capitalize the final quality of the product that the functioning well adapted to the needs for customers and Internet users.
The platform Family Sphere was also complex to set up. In particular, I sometimes have dealt with new specific needs which allowed me to widely open to the necessities of certain activities which I did not absolutely know.
Do you have some advice to give to those who begin in the Web sector?
I advise all the beginners who would like to launch in this job but not to jump the gun. It is not a task to be underestimated.
The development, which is not to copy the existing and modify at random, is capable of reflection, logic, patience and perseverance. You should not try to know everything, master and want to touch everything at the beginning. I advise to concentrate on a language in particular, the one which is going to become our base, our daily life, sharpen gradually the skills and capacities of responding effectively to an initial need in a right way.
Let practice, develop, become familiar with the code. It is maybe a little "geek" way to see things, but feel at ease with a programming language or development, which is as natural as French or English!
