Trans-humanism connected

The Man, Web and Machine: towards a connected trans-humanism?

07/21/2014

If the last century was the one of the technological revolution, it also marks the succession of numerous concepts stemming from a new thought that of machine autonomy. In fact, the evolution of technical means and energy resources has been accelerated in a exponential way over the past years, by bringing a new dimension in the perception and apprehension of our environment more and more connected and turned to Web.

Homo ex Machina: the era of the trans-humanism

At the moment, the technology filled with numerous domains of the current and continuous life to settle down durably in our lifestyles. Therefore, a lot of questions are raised for the future and the place of the intelligent machine in our company. Many concepts such as Moore's laws, Intel founder and author of the laws mentioned, have moved forward the machine’s empowerment theory by the development of the computing power. The current computer machines are more and more powerful and turn to Internet now, the extension become natural of our social environment.

Man in the face of the technological peculiarity

This theory joins a central concept in the debate on the artificial intelligence of the technological peculiarity. According to this theory, the humanity should see a major turning point in the development and the technological production before 2045. From this non-return point, the technology should free itself from the human domination, capable of making its own decisions and auto-generate. The technical development always had for objective to serve the humanity, by getting rid of the ballast from the Man of his boring task, by exploiting the technology in favor of our needs. Our computers are the proof because we request them constantly to fill missions always more numerous, to make complex calculations and surf on the Internet. But what will it be when a machine can decide or not help you?

The artificial intelligence, between fiction and reality

The cinema and the science fiction widely used first for the subject by envisaging the question under all the angles; however, a piece of work will catch our attention here: the series Real Humans: 100 % human being, Swedish production spread in France on Arte, rather representative of this fantasy of Men for the machine which thinks.

In fact, the scenario depicts a world where Human beings developed the robot in their image, so that they serve the needs for Men: workers, domestics, companions or even sexual partners, machines have to satisfy all the needs and the desires of the human beings, urging even the latter to abandon their body for the benefit of an automated body. This recent production is interesting because it depicts a rather credible scenario of what could be our future relations with the machine: how to consider a person who thinks as you, who looks like you but who does not share anything in your human condition? How to determine the crossing point of the intelligence towards consciousness?

At the moment, Internet contributes abundantly to the distribution of the new technologies worldwide. All the users of computers or connected mobile devices appeal software of which the artificial intelligence does not stop developing. In this idea, it is obvious that the company aims at a connected environment. The current tendencies aspire to the "virtual community", the gathering of entities and individuals who weave new digital links with them that is why Internet occupies a central place in this debate: it is the weft on which takes shape the sketch of a social sphere freeing from distances thanks to the digital technology. Haven’t we  been already, at least in part, immersed in partially dematerialized living spaces

The trans-humanism: the Humanity future?

Today, we appeal the technology to extend our life, mitigate our physical and mental weaknesses or look after us, because it answers perfectly our will to transcend our condition. The concept "Homme augmenté" (developed Man) became common in the debate trans-humanist, because it raises the question of the improvement and the body development via the nanotechnology or biotechnologies. From this perspective, the machine overtakes the part of our personal satisfaction, by allowing us to go beyond our human being's condition, towards a state unifying the biological and mechanics. Johnny Depp experiences it in the movie "Transcendance", where the latter shows the spirit transferred in a computer by his wife to reach immortality.

It is difficult to answer these questions, as it is difficult to predict the future behavior of machines capable of thinking themselves. The concept of AI can be even envisaged by an immaterial point of view: the viruses and others intelligent software on the Internet, fill tasks only, without the assistance of the Man, what we can consider a form of autonomous intelligence. Internet is a laboratory where these technologies come to life and develop. We can only hope for patience and for wisdom of our fellow men part: Louis Aragon said that "the time to learn to live, it is too late",  Then let envisage a future where the Humanity will have taken time to retain some lessons...
