Trainees in Web writing

Interview of our trainees in Web writing Alexandre and Jérémy

08/12/2014

For a change, we interviewed not only a Jalis employee but also two of our trainees. 28-year-old Alexandre and 23-year-old Jérémy realize their internship by the end of the 4th-year university within the service referencing of the company. They study both in the same promotion in EJCAM of Marseille in 4th year university in Communication and Digital Contents. Being more promoted for the journalism, they wanted to try this internship on the Web writing.

What is your work and which are your centers of interest?

A.L.: I have studied human sciences then the journalism before beginning my internship. There are many for my centers of interest. I have obviously a big interest in the press, in particular the online media, and in the literature. I am also closely interested in the new technologies, it is also what motivated my university program, as well as my choice of internship.

J.J.: I have pursued a License Sciences of Information and Communication in Nice for two years, then completed my diploma in Marseille in the 3rd year of university Information-com, recently created by EJCAM. Thus I am now in Master's degree CCN in the same school, Master's degree focusing strongly on the new journalism.

I spend a great deal of time on the Internet to read news, discuss or simply walk around and obtain new tendencies. I am close to new technologies and to the Internet culture. Next to that, I am a great amateur of photography, an art which I have admired for a few years. I have a blog project in head, which will see (I hope so) in the daytime before the end of the year.

What has brought you for an internship at Jalis?

A.L.: The opportunity to be able to make of the Web writing, the domain for which I have a particular interest. The school of journalism also imposes two months minimum of internship to the students to put their skills into practice and form on the ground.

J.J.: For one year, I have made an internship in the local of the newspaper Provence in Marseille. I enormously learnt during this experience and I hesitated to repeat it. However, I also wanted to discover new horizons. The desire to write always the present, I so turned to the Web writing and the referencing.

What are your missions? And what are your favorite tasks?

A.L.: My mission consists of writing articles and announcements for web sites, customers of Jalis. It is a question of optimizing sites via the editorial writing and the creation of these retail websites’ contents. The editorial writing I believe, is my favorite activity. I dedicate to it a lot of time, during my internship and my daily life at the same time.

J.J.: I have worked in the referencing service, my main mission related to Web writing. For these two months which has already passed by, I have written numerous directed articles referencing for various customer sites of Jalis, as well as a little more thoughtful and accomplished articles which were used for the animation of Jalis page in the social networks.

With it, I have made Netlinking to improve the positioning of sites customers.

Have you made good progress since the beginning of your internship? What are or were your difficulties?

A.L.: Training allows obviously to improve... However, I neither met major difficulty previously, nor now. This internship allows me especially to perfect and learn about the techniques of Web sites’ referencing, when sharpening my writing skills.

J.J.: We cannot really talk about difficulty but what raised me problem at the beginning was to change my way of writing. An article with an urgent title and an announcement on the site neither uses the same techniques of writing nor the same codes of language. It was necessary to adapt itself.

And later?

A.L.: Return to the school of journalism for a year before getting down in search of a post.

J.J.: Although I feel ready to join the occupational environment now, I shall go to make very certainly my second year of Master's degree next holidays. I doubt to manage to find an employment easily with a simple License. After that? I shall actively look for a job of Web writer and a referrer, why not!

At your young age and with young experience, which advice would you give to other students?

A.L.: I would say that it is important to determine well the expectations and its objectives to make good decisions now. It is important to put skills to the test by confronting with the ground reality and not to limit the student life.

J.J.: It is necessary to stand out, to know what we want and make all the efforts to obtain it. At the moment we come from of our life where things stop being handed over on the platter. It is necessary to obtain them now and enter adult life. But the most important? Find something pleasing us.
