Less than a year after NES mini’s release, Nintendo rides the wave of the retro-gaming by offering Super NES Mini. Is it successful?
Building on NES Mini’s success which Nintendo announced that he re-launched the production for 2018, the Japanese manufacturer declined the concept for the mythical 16-bit console.
Super NES in hand
In fact, the one that we should call Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (we shall content ourselves with Super NES Mini or Super Nintendo Mini) has the same size as its sister. Moreover, it is not the only point which they have in common because they share the same hardware. A report which makes people smile when we know the technological abyss which separated both consoles at the time.
For the rest, Super NES Mini is similar to its smaller model. Levers are identical even if the material seems a little more down-market. Nintendo has paid attention on the criticisms formulated against Super NES Mini on this point. On the one hand, the machine is sold with two levers. On the other hand, they have (finally) cables of a decent length which do not oblige to play the nose stuck on the screen. On the contrary, Kyoto firm always refuses to join an adapter sector in the packaging. You thus should have a USB port ready for use.
Once being switched on, the proposed interface is simple. You summits to scroll the sets from left to right and conversely. At the top, you have some options for the definition of image, the possibility of joining a frame around the main window, the legal information …
The finest videogame
What about the most important games? We can assert without trembling that Nintendo offered the elite of the console catalog with a few exceptions. Of course, we can always quibble such an absence or such a title. But from Super Mario World to Donkey Kong Country via Star Fox, Super Mario Kart or even Secret of Mana, there is nothing to cast in this selection. But fortunately, it would be tempting to say, because Super NES Mini had 30 titles, the junior includes only 21. There was a choice when it was sold twenty euros more expensively according to the price recommended. There is no doubt that the geeks of all kinds will have a tremendous time to develop somehow or in a game library. We can welcome all the initiative having introduced Star Fox 2 which had never released previously.

Another black dot: all the games are in English. In fact, it is necessary to know that Japanese manufacturer did not make effort to locate the production. As a result: if the console form is different, Europeans have the same contents as that of Americans. Whether it is Roma, the picture or the titles, the first ones have access to the US game version. It is allowed to see the half-full glass because it gives them access to unpublished titles (whatsoever) in our parts to know Earthbound, Final Fantasy III and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. However, it is rather logical to deny a good thing when a Secret of Mana is available only in English as it had benefited from a French translation originally. Only the main menu is from Shakespeare's language. It is not sure that it helps to discover these classics to the youngest.
In the beam of novelties, it is necessary to indicate that the reset button situated on the console also allows to activate a "replay" function. During about forty seconds, the player can then go back in time and take back before the moment coming to show "game over". This option is not of luxury when we see the challenges affected by some games, Super Ghouls'n Ghosts for not mentioning it.
Finally, Nintendo offers an experiment in the form of memory trigger to all those which developed with Super NES lever in hands. We smile in front of some special effects (the famous mode 7) which established the technology ultimate in the period. We have caught in gut to listening to some music which rocked our childhood. We are amazed at the quality, including visual, by certain titles considered today like classics without being dorks.
Finally … It it is for those who bothered to pre-order their machine or who were lucky to find one in the store stalls. To others, there are only their eyes tearing by looking at the overpriced announcements of certain sale sites between private individuals.
